Christmas in Glasgow

Two weeks ago, Nirina, Lorna and I took a festive filled day trip to  Glasgow. The lovely team at Glasgow Loves Christmas invited us along on a press trip to experience the city during the holiday season.

The last time I’d been in Glasgow was when I was 7 years old. I don’t remember much so it was a great excuse to re-visit! Flying from Ireland was literally a dream. You can nab return flights for approximately£25, even cheaper when Ryanair is having a sale. The flight takes around 40 mins, faster than you can drive to most places in Ireland!

Our day in Glasgow was jam-packed and filled with some great things you can do around the city… take a look!

Where To Eat

As we had a very early start (5 am!!!), the girls and I were starving by the time we arrived in Scotland. Our first stop was breakfast at Kimble’sa chocolate filled cafe in St Enoch Centre. There were so many tempting items on the menu but I had to go for the Nutella pancakes with strawberries, and a cappuccino of course. This was also where the girls and I met the rest of our trip’s group, 3 Glaswegian bloggers. We found out throughout the day that they were basically our Scottish counterparts!

At midday, we stopped for afternoon tea at Cup Tea Rooms in Virginia Court. It offers over 50 different teas as well as countless delicious looking gin cocktails. I was still stuffed from breakfast but I couldn’t help myself from having a few mini sandwiches and cakes!

Our last foodie stop was for dinner at The Restaurant Bar and Grill. I was starving by the time dinner came around so I was looking forward to a good meal. I opted for a beetroot salad to start and juicy steak as my main. The Restaurant Bar and Grill also treated us to three of their special Christmas cocktails. Unfortunately, our time at the restaurant was cut slightly short as we had a flight to catch. All the more reason to revisit!

Where To Shop

In terms of shopping, Glasgow has a lot to offer, including the famous Style Mile. In the morning, the girls and I were given an exclusive tour around House of Fraser or Frasers as it’s known in Glasgow. The Glasgow establishment is the company’s original store and is bursting full of its iconic heritage. The store offers a great range of beauty lounges and fashion brands all under one roof.

Our next department store trip was to John Lewis in Buchanan Galleries. We headed there to do a bit of Christmas bauble shopping and learn about the store’s exclusive tree themes. This year, Glasgow’s John Lewis has 6 out of the 7 exclusive themes. After learning about them we were given the chance to pick our own bauble to take home!

What To Do

While we were in Buchanan Galleries visiting John Lewis, our group took a quick pitstop at the Nespresso pop up bar. The staff treated us to a shot of their new Christmas flavour, Coconut and vanilla. Delicious!

Our last activity before dinner was a workshop at The Beauty Kitchen. The wonderful Josie talked us through all their natural products and how to make our very own body scrub. We all got to pick a scented base oil, exfoliant and herbs to include in our scrub. I really enjoyed the workshop, it’s great to see the process that goes into making some of the beauty products we know and love! If you’ve time to spare in Glasgow I 100% recommend booking in a session!

So that was it, my short and sweet trip to Glasgow! While we fit loads of activities into one day, I’d love to go back and stay a few days to see the city at a slower pace. What do you think, will you be planning a trip to Glasgow anytime soon?
