Gorey StaycationFancy a luxurious staycation? Look no further than Gorey.

Last weekend, Lorna and I had the pleasure of spending the night in Gorey, Co. Wexford. All thanks to Visit Wexford and LoveGorey.ie who invited us down to get a taste of Gorey and all it has to offer.

After the manic week of settling back into college and work after Greece, it was nice to take a mini staycation, even if it was just for a night! I think I might start taking more actually. They’re a great alternative to a city break without all the hassle of flying, etc.

To help us along, Visit Wexford provided us with an itinerary of where to eat, visit and stay and here’s what we got up to!

Where To Stay

First things first, accommodation. Lorna and I drove straight to Marlfield House where we were being put up for the night. When I told a few of my friends who are from Gorey where we were staying they were pretty impressed and I can see why! Marlfield House is an award-winning luxury country house hotel situated 5 minutes from Gorey town. It’s famous for their excellent hospitality, exquisite grounds, and Georgian style rooms.

Lorna and I stayed in the Georgian Room, featuring two queen size double beds and an amazing marble bathroom. The room was huge, though as soon as we brought our stuff in it looked like a bomb had hit. Thankfully, the room also has a walk-in wardrobe where we were able to hide our mess!

I really enjoyed my stay in the Marlfield. The beds were comfy, the breakfast was delicious and the manager Margaret was so welcoming. During our stay, I found out that pets are also welcome so I definitely want to return with Poppy in tow!

Where To Eat

Food, glorious food! Never in my life had I eaten as much as the day that Lorna and I went to Gorey! Before we left Dublin I attended the Regatta press event and had a huge breakfast. After arriving in Gorey and setting our bags down we headed straight for The Kitchen @ Gorey, a stylish restaurant located just off Gorey main street. As I was still quite full from the morning I opted for their Super Food Salad and a pink lemonade. Very tasty, though I definitely want to return on an empty stomach and try some of their other delicious offerings.

For dinner, Lorna and I didn’t have to venture far. We dined in The Duck Terrace Restaurant located on the grounds of Marlfield House. Before we ate we enjoyed one of the Duck’s specialty cocktails and light nibbles. For the main course, I opted for the Seared Magret Duck Breast and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to share. The duck was beautifully cooked and both Lorna and I agreed, the service there was impeccable!

After eating lunch, Lorna and I visited three of Gorey’s boutiques. I really enjoyed browsing them as Dublin’s high street stores can get a bit boring after a while. The first boutique we visited was Ruby Rouge and I instantly fell in love with their interiors. Ruby Rouge recently moved location and went through a makeover. On their copper piping rails hung loads of elegant and unique pieces. Ruby Rouge has a great range of occasion wear perfect if you’re attending the races or a wedding.

The second boutique we popped into was PlaceI loved how different Place was from most boutiques. Julianna, the owner, took a lot of inspiration from Scandinavian interiors, which I adore. Place sources a lot of their clothes from Scandinavian countries and Australia and is perfect for finding standout pieces you can be sure no one else will have.

Our last stop was Fifth Avenue, a ladies store that stocks Only, Vero Moda and Pieces. We chatted away to the lovely Sinead while trying on some of their new pieces. I got to pick up the gorgeous outfit pictured above. How cute is that leather dress though? I thought it was the perfect outfit to help transition into Autumn Winter. The black frilled polo was €14.99, the leather style dress €49.99 and the wool coat was €79.99. I can see myself wearing this outfit quite a lot as we’re heading into colder weather!

So that was my whirlwind trip to Wexford! I really enjoyed getting out of the city for a day and heading down to the country. Big thanks to Lorna for being the greatest travel buddy and of course, Visit Wexford and LoveGorey.ie for organizing the trip. Until next time!
