Holidaze: Hong Kong, Week 1

Hello from Hong Kong!

Hope everyone’s been good! I’ve now been in Hong Kong for a week! Well takeย the day two days I lost travelling. ๐Ÿ™

Our trip started out fairly bumpy, our plane to Dubai from Dublin was extremely late which resulted in us missing our flight to Hong Kong! We had to leave the airport in Dubai and spend a few hours in a hotel while we waited for our next flight. That wasn’t the hardest thing in the world… ๐Ÿ˜‰ At least I got to see a bit of Dubai, unfortunately most of what I saw was construction sites. Even our hotel was in the middle of a site!IMG_8346 I was so pissed off I didn’t have my check in luggage with me as all my swimsuits were in it and there was an amazing pool. In the end I said “fuck it” and went in in my underwear. ๐Ÿ˜›IMG_8335When we finally got back to the airport I got the whiskey I bought for my dad in Duty Free taken off me as I’d left Dubai airport and wasn’t allowed bring it back in. Pissed off isn’t even the word! I found everyone in Dubai to be SO rude and unhelpful, I don’t think I’ll ever be going back! Bar my stop off home of course. ๐Ÿ˜›

Dan and I were exhausted after 24 hours of travelling so we decided to just stay around Discovery Bay and chill. I got to show him the area I grew up in which was nice!800px-Discovery_Bay_2011

On Thursday we ventured into the city to have a mosey around. Skyscrapers and taxis galore! We walked around Central then headed into Causeway Bay. We discovered that tobacco skins are notoriously hard to find in HK as no one rolls their smokes over here, unlike Dan. ๐Ÿ˜›DSC_0064We then met my dad for dinner in this amazing Korean barbecue restaurant that I always visit whenever I’m back! I uploaded a few pics on snapchat but forgot to save them! Follow me if you want day to day updates though! (@meiling_t)

Friday was the day Dan turned into a lobster… ๐Ÿ˜› We went to the beach in the morning and did some sunbathing. The weather was unreal at 32 degrees! I got a bit burnt myself but nothing compared to Dan. ๐Ÿ˜‰IMG_8369We then headed into Mong Kok to visit Ladies Market and Prince Edward to see this street filled with pet shops! I felt so sorry for all the little puppies behind the glass cages. I just wanted to take them all home!IMG_8379DSC_0072Afterwards we went to dinner with my uncle and aunt in the Hong Kong Police club and Dan got his first taste of a traditional Chinese dinner!DSC_0100Saturday

Shopping time! My dad, Dan and I visited Tung Chung’s outlet mall. Basically a shopper’s paradise! Michael Kors, Bally, Kate Spade, Coach, Nike etc all have outlet stores out there! I bought a new Micheal Kors handbag (which I adore, I don’t care who says they’re out of fashion) and a pair of awesome Nike white hi-tops.IMG_8381 DSC_0068For lunch we got some dim sum, again something new for Dan. But one of my favourite things to do in HK.DSC_0024In the evening, Dan and I went to get the tram to the peak but the line was so big we had to give it a miss until a weekday. Instead we went into Soho and got a meal and shisha after.DSC_0088 DSC_0129Sunday

Another chill day! Well.. it was meant to be. ๐Ÿ˜› We went to the rock pools and brought the go pro. Of course, me being the clumsiest person ever I lost the fecking camera! While it was strapped onto my chest I jumped off the cliff face and into the water. I ended up dislodging the camera with my knee and it dropped into the deepest part of the pool! It took me nearly half an hour to find it diving without any goggles and the water was not clear! It’s pretty funny to watch back though as there’s 25 minutes of underwater video of me looking for it and little fish swimming around it!

DCIM101GOPROSome of my family then came round and we had lunch and dinner together at mine. I tasted oysters for the first time and I must say, I’m not a fan! ๐Ÿ˜›

So that was my first week here! Dan has another week left while I have two to go. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you enjoyed reading about my trip so far.ย I also have a few street style posts to go up, so look out for them!
