Mastering the no makeup-makeup look with Benefit Cosmetics

The sun has been shining and the humidity has made everyone in Ireland feel pretty stuffy recently. I won’t complain about the unprecedented weather but it has made a few things more difficult. Wearing makeup for example. Now I don’t wear makeup every day, but when I do, I like it to stay on my face! This recent shift in climate is slightly reminiscent of my days in Hong Kong, where a few hours after applying foundation I’d have sweat it away. Thankfully, our weather isn’t quite that muggy, but I certainly don’t want to be wearing a full face of heavy makeup!

I’ve always opted for a more natural makeup style but recently I feel like I’ve really nailed it. After years of trialling and testing multiple brands and products, I really feel like I’ve found some holy grails and go-tos. Benefit has always been one of my favourite brands and I’ve noticed that a lot of my makeup routine revolves around a majority of Benefit products. Some I’ve been using for years, others I’ve been made a recent convert of.

It’s all about that base… no, but really, it is. I 100% maintain that a good base is the most important aspect of my makeup routine. I start with Porefessional Primer to prime my face and help cover my pores. I’ve tried a few different primers but swear by this one. Then onto foundation. I’ve only recently started using Benefit’s Hello Happy Foundation but so far, I’m really enjoying its light and comfortable coverage. To cover up any imperfections I use Boi-ing Concealer in shade Medium.

One of Benefit’s most loved products is Hoola Bronzer and I can see why. I’m a big fan of this bronzer as it doesn’t give a dirty or patchy look that some bronzers can. For blush, I used Gold Rush Blush and Watt’s Up! to highlight my cheekbones, tear ducts, top lip, under my eyebrows and the bridge of my nose.

I like a natural eye that’s accentuated by long lashes and a strong brow. As always, I used Ka- Brow Gel in shade 03 and Gimme Brow in shade 05 on my brows. I’ve made it no secret in the past that I’m a big advocate of Benefit’s brow products and services. In keeping with the natural, sun-kissed look, I returned to my Hoola Bronzer and swept it across my eyelids. To finish, I used my Roller Lash Mascara. This and Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara are my two favourite mascaras ever. Seriously, go try them.

Lastly, I applied some Vaseline to my lips and went over them with They’re Real Lipstick in shade ‘Nude Scandal’. These lipsticks are pretty cool as they’re two-in-one. Lipliner and lipstick in one!

This isn’t my usual type of blog post but I feel like it’s been AGES since I’ve written something beauty related. This is quite funny to me because I originally started blogging about beauty and never touched fashion. Now I feel like I’ve done a complete 180 and switched passions. I do still have a love for beauty and posts like this remind me of that. I really enjoyed shooting the images and writing this post so let me know if you’d like to see more like it!
